Cynthia started Ondine because she was looking for clothing that would offer instant sun protection without sacrificing style, performance and our planet.

The idea came to Cynthia during a day at the beach. As Cynthia diligently reapplied sunscreen to her 3 young children, already outfitted in rash guards and hats, she realized she wasn't doing the same for herself. Looking around, she noticed other mothers following the same pattern, prioritizing their families' sun protection at the expense of their own health and wellness.

She knew sun protection was critical, yet constantly reapplying sunscreen while chasing after kids felt like another exhausting task preventing her from enjoying the lovely day at the beach she was desperately trying to have.

That experience led to her initial search for sun-protective clothing, but everything Cynthia found was synthetic, overly colorful, or lacking adequate coverage.

That's when she realized what the apparel market was missing: a stylish, functional solution that combined instant sun protection with chic, protective, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics. She wanted to allow busy women to prioritize their skin health while still looking good and staying active, even if that activity was running after their kids.

But she also recognized that sun exposure isn't limited to beach days or vacations; it happens daily -- while driving, playing sports, or spending hours at the playground.
